The Founding Members
On 27 March 1960 the first General Convention of the founders of the Society was held in Thessaloniki, at Vassilios Vassilikos’ residence on 33 Queen Sophia Road. Vassilios Vassilikos was a member of the Parliament for the Prefecture of Chalkidiki and a former Minister. The following members were also present: Nick. Kottas lawyer and a former Minister, Lys. Sarafianos doctor and a member of the Parliament for the Prefecture of Chalkidiki, Apost. Aidonas lawyer and a member of the Parliament for the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, Athan. Philippidis lawyer and chairman of Pan-Chalcidician Association of Thessaloniki, Nick. Pappas, lawyer and later a notary, St. Papastavrou writer , Ch. Oikonomou industrialist, Kon. Gerochristos lawyer and a Polygyros city council chairman, Petr. Zafiratos Mayor of N. Moudania, Ip. Pachtas Mayor of Arnaia, Vas. Kalogeras professor at the Experimental Secondary School of Thessaloniki, Kir. Cosmas Secondary School professor, George Psychoulas Secondary School professor, Steph. Kotsianos lawyer and a member of the Parliament for the Prefecture of Chalkidiki, A. Tsentelis industrialist, Theod. Kaltsas physician, Ioan. Avgoloupis Secondary School professor, I. The Honorary Members
To date, honorary membership in the Society has been conferred upon distinguished figures in the Church and in the field of Arts and letters, whose work has substantially contributed to the realization of its mission. These are the University Professors and Members of the Academy Kon. Despotopoulos, Sol. Cydoniatis, Kon. Vavouskos, Ter. Valala-Pentzopoulou, Nic. Moutsopoulos, Hel. Glykatzi-Arveler and Ap. Vakalopoulos, the former Archibshop of Athen and All Greece Christodoulos, Dr. Chr. Baloglou, the poet G.TH. Vaphopoulos, the director and author Nest. Matsas and the Secondary School professors Aik. St. Kotsianou and Ach. Vamvakoudis.
